An Avon Walk for the Cure Hero

Meet Jean Poitevien. He is a hero in more ways than one.

Firstly, Jean is a retired Marine. While in the military, he participated in humanitarian projects in Haiti, built a water purification plant in Iraq, and facilitated the distribution of resources in Kosovo. He’s been everywhere, and he’s made a difference.

And there’s his walking. Jean has walked 8+ Avon Breast Cancer Walks. That’s over 350 miles, people! He does this in honor of his mother, who past away from breast cancer in 2001. He’s walked in every participating city. He does this with a 40 pound backpack on. In his Marine gear. Whoa.

I photographed Jean this past weekend for the “Real Men Wear Pink” Avon Breast Cancer Walk calendar. And, of course, Jean is Mr. July!

It was an honor to meet Jean and learn about his life and his great story. Jean, if you read this, thank you for your service to our country and for helping raise money to make huge strides in breast cancer research!
