My Favorite and Best Downtown Frederick, Maryland Retail Stores

This is a topic I could go on and on about. Downtown Frederick is home to so many amazing stores- I feel lucky to live in such an incredible place full of independent stores of all kinds.

Here’s a list of just a few of my favorites- it’s so hard to choose!

Curious Iguana :: BEST BOOKSTORE!

Since opening in September 2013, Curious Iguana has quickly become a popular literary hub for locals and tourists alike. Their globally diverse collection and vibrant events calendar reflect the Iguana’s mission of “Get To Know Your World.” Their welcoming and knowledgeable team of booksellers makes browsing at the Iguana so much fun.

In addition to being a bookstore and a community gathering space, the Iguana is a benefit corporation. Each month, they donate a portion of the store’s sales to international non-profits. They also have a big heart for the Frederick community, offering support to local schools, non-profits, and other organizations.

Curious Iguana owners Marlene and Tom England also own Dancing Bear Toys and Gifts, which opened in 2000 and moved from the bookstore’s current location to a larger space at 15 East Patrick Street in the summer of 2013. (the best toy store! And it’s a battery-free toystore, to boot!)

Take Root :: MY FAVORITE PLANT STORE!

I love plants. (you already know this.) Take Root is a vibrant indoor plant shop specializing in houseplants & accessories, and home decor. The owner is a gem and very invested in plant education. Her plants are healthy and beautiful and perfect. A must visit if you’re a plant lover like myself.

Relish Decor :: MY FAVORITE PLACE FOR GIFTS!

Relish Decor is a lifestyle boutique known for a stylish selection of tabletop housewares, kitchen furnishings, and unique gifts.

Hallie, the owner, has curated an incredible selection of merchandise that is not commonly found in the mainstream retail market. Relish shelves bustle with treasures for the entertainer: colorful vintage-inspired dinnerware and glassware, artisan-made fine cutlery and serving boards, and recycled soaps and candles. Collections from up-and-coming American designers mingle with one-of-a-kind vintage finds from Parisian flea markets. They also offer a full online and in-store gift registry service.

Sisters in Style :: MY FAVORITE PLACE FOR A QUICK OUTFIT

Sisters in Style is a darling little boutique with all-inclusive sizes. Like, they have sweaters that go past size 6- it’s a damn miracle! They also have an app, where the owners try on the clothes for you, which is super cool. Also, they are a deaf-owned business. These ladies are amazing.

Sky’s the Limit :: MY FAVORITE PLACE FOR UNIQUE JEWELRY

Known as the “original unique boutique” Sky’s the Limit brings out the inner-hippie in me, in the very best way. They carry a lot of different things but specialize in sterling silver jewelry, semi-precious stones, and women’s clothing. I’ve also purchased incense there, a few scents I’ve never seen before. I bought the cutest little camera ring here a few years ago and still wear it often.
