The Dol ceremony blesses the child on their 1st birthday with a prosperous future in Korean culture.
The birthday baby wears a hanbok and a traditional hat. As you can see, Lily looked ADORABLE! All of the guests, minus grandparents were on Zoom- it was so fun to see them all on the tv screen, watching from all over!
The highlight of the Dol is a custom called the Doljabi where the child is placed in front of foods and objects such as string, pencils, rice, and money. The child is then urged to pick up an object. It is believed the one selected will foretell the child’s future.
Lily’s first picked up pencils (an academic, perhaps?!) quickly followed by a gavel. (both of her parents are lawyers, so that is interesting to me!)
Thank you so much for letting me document Lily’s first year of life- from a newborn session to holiday photos, to today’s very special Zoom Dol.
Happy Birthday, Sweet Lily!
