The above photo is one I took on Thursday at the DC Design House of Miss Jessica Gregory, a patient at Children’s National Medical Center. Not only is she one of the sweetest and sassiest ten year olds I’ve ever met, but she’s a great ambassador for Children’s.
Jessica had a rocky start- when she was born she was diagnosed with spina bifida, a neural tube defect in which the spinal cord does not develop properly. There was a fear that Jessica may never walk. But thanks to Children’s and numerous surgeries, Jessica is not only walking, but she’s also a blue belt in kung fu! It was an honor to meet Jessica and her family- they are all an amazing testament to all the wonderful things Children’s is doing!
Which brings me to the awesome event where I met Jessica- the DC Design House! Those of you who know me that I am an absolute design JUNKIE! I read all the design blogs, get all the magazines… I love it! So being able to be at this event was a little slice of heaven!
This year the house is the lovely 1875 Victorian rectory for St. John’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown. 15 of the most talented designers in DC showcased their work in this house- all to benefit Children’s!
Aside from the beautiful house tour, guests were invited to a reception where folks from Children’s, including little Miss Jessica, were able to speak about all the great work being done there.
Without getting too wishy washy, I do have to say that I was humbled to be in the presence of such incredible doctors. Not only are they some of the top doctors in the world, but they are so passionate about what they do. And not just the doctors- the amazing volunteers and staff of Children’s are so wonderful! A big shout out to Grace Easby-Smith, who was amazing at this event!
Children’s was sweet enough to give me two free tickets to the house, but since I’ve already been in (and seen every little inch and detail!) I figured I’d have a little comment contest! Please leave a comment below and I will choose a random winner on THURSDAY at 3pm EST- you’ll get two free tickets to see the house! It’s open until May 10th. So leave me a comment!
