Rebecca + Colin are such a wonderful pair.

They spent much of their relationship long-distance, but made it work.

I photographed Rebecca’s brother’s wedding in 2010, so it was such a treat to see so many familiar faces again and document another fantastic day in this family’s history.

Our wedding day was everything we could have hoped for. It was more than just a wedding for us – it was a huge milestone. Of the five years we’ve been together, the last four leading up to the wedding had been long-distance. Colin was in the Air Force, stationed in Montana for the most part, and I was finishing college in Chicago. It was difficult, but so worth it. The wedding was finally the finish line for us, distance-wise! There was truly so much to celebrate in that regard.

It was very much a bittersweet occasion, though, as my mom had unexpectedly passed away just a few weeks before the wedding. Needless to say, it was beyond tough getting through the day without her, but there was so much positive energy around us, and we were able to soak in some much needed celebration and happiness after a really awful month. I did make sure to add a few reminders of my mom, especially the sapphire ring I wore, which she had recently given me specifically to be my “something blue.”

We had a TON of out-of-town guests – much of Colin’s family is scattered throughout the country, mainly in California – so it was such a treat to have so many loved ones in one place. Our bridal parties alone were from all over the place! It meant so much to us that so many people were able to join us to celebrate.
