Seamus- A Littlest Hero

Seamus, a little hero of mine!

I’m not sure I can even have words that can convey to you how wonderful little Seamus is.

Seamus is a three year old with an ancient, sweet soul.  Although he has been through so much in his few short years on earth, he has an amazing disposition and personality.  He truly couldn’t be a sweeter kid.  He was born with Cystic Fibrosis, which makes his life much different.  He is a Little Hero.

This morning when I just couldn’t seem to get myself in gear, I kept thinking about how his mom Julie and dad James can’t miss a beat with him.  In the morning he begins a two hour treatment for his Cystic Fibrosis, which they administer.  Throughout the day there are many things to take care of including giving Seamus enzymes before he eats.  And here I am complaining about a bad hair day.

Despite his treatments that add up to hours and hours a day, dozens of hospital visits, and many doctor visits and medications, Seamus somehow manages to be a happy wonderful little guy.  He is curious about everything- asking so many questions.  We became friends immediately.

We spent the afternoon with his mom, dad and grandma at Brookside Gardens, taking photos here and there, pretending to be Spiderman, showing me his “dudes” (his fave toys of the moment), and telling me how much he enjoys hanging out with his friends in the neighborhood.  It was a time where he could just be a kid, playing on the slides and running down paths, forgetting his many hours of treatment to come.

While I really do like every child I meet, Seamus truly took a piece of my heart.  He is so strong and brave, so kind and loving, even to strangers.  It makes you realize how important it is to be thankful for what you have, and not angry about what you don’t.

So, readers, if you haven’t fallen in love with this little dude yet, take a look at the rest of these images.

And if you want to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, I would ask you to visit Seamus’ webpage for GreatStrides, a walk happening in Rockville this weekend.

Friends, let’s help this family reach their fundraising goal!  Wouldn’t that be a great way to start your week?!  Let’s help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis- let’s do it for Seamus!!!

I photographed Seamus and his family through a great organization called The Littlest Heroes Project.  It matches up volunteer photogs with kids who are little heroes who are facing difficult illnesses.  Find out more on their website!
